Let there be light! A huge team of 23 runners ran just under 6km to help a community learning centre at our first day lit run of the year.
After last week's birthday celebrations, I was expecting this week to be an anticlimax. But a huge group of runners showed up and the team was made up to welcome GoodGym Founder Ivo to his first Liverpool Group Run. Cool beans!
We're used to being heckled as we pound the streets of Liverpool clad in our matching red t-shirts, they're not always, but today's heckle was a nice one. A man rang his bicycle bell at us and proclaimed, "I've seen you on the telly!" That's right, we're kind of a big deal. We were indeed on BBC North West this week and you can still view the shorter clip on Facebook here.
After a hotly paced 3km we arrived at Kensington Community Learning Centre ready for action. The staff kindly greeted us with a tray of sausage rolls and jugs of squash. We soon split into two groups, one team who would help with moving and arranging archive boxes and the other team who would move furniture and help to lay a carpet. We've never laid a carpet before, I'm not sure we ever will again, but it was certainly an experience!
This week's shout-outs go to newbies Basma and Matthew who did a great job keeping pace and got stuck in to a pretty random task! We'd love you to run with us again soon.
Task complete, some of the team grabbed another sausage roll to power up for the run back. Yes readers, they ran while stuffing pork-based pastries in their gobs. I do not condone such practices. As such, we stopped en route to base for a super quick fitness session to get the team thinking about the importance of their arms in running.
Double kudos to John who lead the run back to base AND for the title pun (he's on a roll!) :)
With every week getting better and better, what does next Monday hold? Come and find out, sign-up here.
P.S. Last week someone left a purple plastic bottle at the hotel - is it yours?
P.P.S. Don't forget that there are two Community Missions coming up soon. Find out more and sign-up here.
