Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Gosia Rybacka
Today's sulky weather was not a reason good enough to stop Clare and Gosia from meeting up in Southwark to help out Mr B. He had a couple of GG runners come clear his garden a few months back, but they were not able to clear all the garden waste. Today, the help was needed in moving it into the bins ready for the council to collect on tomorrow morning.
The pile was really big and this means two things: firstly, we knew straight away that we wouldn't be able to sort it out in one go; secondly, the previous GG runners did some REALLY impressive gardening job here! The pile consisted of various types of branches, twigs, leaves a but also few little yellow pears.
Mr B provided us with few big black buckets for the collection, then asked to make quick shuttles from the garden to the front porch to put the waste where it belongs – into the brown recycling bin. We were lucky to get proper garden gloves as some of the branches were really aggressive, attacking our hands with thick, spiky and unpredictable thorns. We did 5 rounds (10 buckets in total) to fill the bin completely. Actually, to get this all in we needed to use our special jump-pressing technique (this was a bit of fun, ha!).
Mr B was pleased with the outcome and also expressed an interest in arranging next missions with GG in the nearest time. We estimate that around 2-3 more rounds like this are needed to make the troublesome pile completely disappear. The garden waste is being collected by the council every week.
