Find out about GoodGym TaskForce

Share the love

Last night most of us headed back to Daubeney Fields, where we've been going since the autumn to help turn part of their car park into a lovely community garden.

The group included a bunch of first-timers, who were all very welcome (and hopefully had a good time)!

Meanwhile, a core group of regulars went back to deal with a thorny backyard situation that we had helped to clear last week and over the weekend, but I would literally have had no idea what happened there except that they made it back alive had they not kindly shared this with us.

"Meanwhile, four tenacious do-gooders returned to make a third and final pass at Mrs A’s Garden from two Tuesdays ago. Having not seen the space since our first visit, Patrick and Antonia returned to witness the transformation which took place during a massive weekend mission for which David and Kevin were both present. To their surprise a further 12 bags of garden waste were removed during their 40 minute stay, leaving the space looking completely clear for (hopefully) some grass to grow over the summer. "

Now back to the task.

After floating like leaves on our way down, we stopped to admire the new gate before getting to work on painting and sanding it and a nearby fence.

With 34 minutes on the clock we had to work fast, lots of Mr Miyagi like waxing on and off and a bunch of chat about who posses the best technique. Some engine revving so the high beam didn't drain the bat mobiles car battery and some appppppppauling jokes we OOOOOOOOWNED the task ;-).

We managed to paint almost all of the fence and gate (and only a little bit of ourselves...) before stopping, when the amazing Olympia served us tea and biscuits.

As some were cold the ever charming Cory somehow managed to get us all playing "Whats the time Mr Wolf". Obviously this child like game had been manipulated into something far more testing that what we all grew to love as children. All steps must be taken on your forefoot or mid foot only, NO HEALY TOUCHY TOUCHY. if you are caught moving by the wolf the amount of steps that you should have done silently magically turn into the amount of burpees that must be done.

Fortified, calves tingling a main group of us headed back, doing both some floating, some sprinting and of course that magic game where you only rest if the traffic lights allow you to and Will led an unsuspecting group of victims on a much longer route.

Finally, as indulgent as ever, Cory let me lead the stretching while he lurked and took embarrassing photos of people whose flexibility for some strange reason knows no bounds

Great job everyone, hopefully see you all, especially the new folks again soon!

A story brought to you by Cory and Sarah.
