26 buzzing runners ran 7km to help set up for the Honey Bee Day at Charlton House!
What a BEEautiful evening it was last night! It ended up being quite a large group again and we had lots of people making a comeback after a little bit of a break! Welcome back to Gareth, Laura and Pulin! Great to have you all running with us again! We missed you!
We also welcomed a few new faces... Brin's sister Christie and GG Newham runner Siobbhan. It was Newham's run last night as well but don't worry Siobbhan, I won't tell Brahma! ;) Anyway, hope you both had a good first run with us!
Scone or scone?
As you can probably tell, "favourite thing" has kind of evolved (more like declined) somewhat over the past year and just turned into any kind of random thing that I can think of a few minutes before the headcount. Last night was the Great British debate - is it scone or scone? Yes I can't really convey pronunciation via this run report but scone definitely came out on top. Scone as in gone. Not scone as in bone :)
After working out who the posh people of the group were, we went a did a little warm up and then headed off on our run!
Our wonderful run leaders Vickie and Ben C took a faster group to the task while I stuck with Nina and the casual squad!
The last 3 runs have been pretty long, all around 7-8km in distance and all involving that big Greenwich Park hill.... I do apologise. But it is doing you good I promise! Incorporating hills is SUCH a good way to increase your speed and fitness so I am only doing it because I care :) and because there's no other way to get there hahaha.
We arrived at the beautiful Charlton House and were greeted by Megan and Carolyn. They had taken half of the runners up to paint the yellow room on the first floor. The rest of the gang were helping out with Honey Bee Day festivities! Which involved sticking bee facts and bee stickers all over the building, so much memoraBEElia. Lee and George were in charge of blowing up some black and yellow helium balloons (fun or what!!!) and there was also some bunting that needed hanging. So loads to BEE getting on with and everyone got stuck in!
Busy bees
HIVE you had enough of these unBEElievable puns yet? Ok I'll stop droning on..
After half an hour or so, the room had been completely painted minus a few hard to reach spots near the ceiling. Mridula had even started painting the twins. All the bee facts and stickers had been stuck on the walls, balloons had been blown up and bunting was beautifully hung thanks to Nina and Sarah. Excellent work!!!!
Before we were due to leave, George did the unspeakable and let go of one of the balloons..... so it was just bumbling (sorry) around the ceiling... hopefully they managed to get it down after we left so the alarms weren't going off all night hahaha!
We took a lovely group pic outside and headed back to the uni the way we came, into one of the prettiest sunsets we've had for a while! Greenwich was on fire!!!
A little stretch and then time for cookies!
Well done last night everyone! Great job on the run and on the task. And if anyone fancies going to the event today to get themselves some fresh local honey then check it out here. See you next week for a slightly shorter run to the charity shop!
