Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Cloud (She/Her)
1st of June already! Can you believe it? We know what you're thinking....we are also EgGcited that it's the start of UK Volunteers Week! It is a week in which the UK CelerYbrates volunteers and says thank you to them for the contribution that they make.
Today, a PeaR of GGers ( Jyothsna & Cloud ) walked from North Finchley to the Food Bank Aid central Food Hub to help out the group of volunteers there with all the supermarket food deliveries. We were greeted by our host Marcus who assigned us with few tasks for our shift.
The Hub was full to the BreaM and it seemed quite an impossible task to unLoaf all the food cages into cranes because there wasn't MushrooM left to manoeuvre. They say it only takes two to MangO and so, we rolled our sleeves up and started moving cranes of coffee, cans of vegetables and fruit, peanut butter, milk, curry sauce, rice.......and got the job done in no ThymE!
After all the lifting and shifting (you might want to cancel your expensive gym membership and join us next time!) we were treated to a tea break with scones (no joke!). We've had the pleasure to meet Naomi, the founder of Food Bank Aid, and hear from herself how they are helping over 14,000 people each week with an average of 65,000 food items given out weekly. - It's nuts when you think that all their great work also comes from the amazing group of volunteers that support them. We, volunteers, make our communities thrive.
Following on from our tea and KetchuP with Naomi, we carried on sorting food at great speed BecouscouS it ain't over LentiL is over! :)
Last but not YeasT, LettucE celebrate that Jyothsna has not only completed her second mission of the week but has also reached 10 good deeds with us! She TurniPs every week with a contagious big smile on her face! BerrY well done!
Pictures spot light: The green and white tags are messages that volunteers at the food hub are leaving behind to celebrate Volunteers Weeks. They are asked to write down what's the reason they volunteer. - What a GrapE question! LettucE know on the comment box below what's your reason! We would LoaF to hear it!
SoY, how about you join us next time?
PeaS & LoaF GoodGymers!
