39 GoodGymers ran between 4-6km and helped two community projects with gardening

Welcome to Juan whose first time it was at GoodGym and to our GG Tourists as well - lovely to have you along.

In the news this week:

  1. It's the last week to sign up to the GG Olympics, it would be great to have you involved and represent Camden in the egg & spoon and more.
  2. Well done to Polly (PSB) who is becoming the Trainer at GG Hammersmith & Fulham at the end of the month.

Cecil Sharp Report by Frances:

A group of us sped up to Cecil Sharp House for our monthly visit to help them with their garden. Living up to its name as the home of English folk song and dance, Billy Bragg arrived for his book launch and joked that he hoped all 20+ of us hadn’t been added to the guest list…

Guest List Gardening

After a productive half hour of sweeping, raking, watering and spreading we headed to Primrose Hill for a quick relay. A spirited performance from all involved, with Hayley anchoring home the victorious team. Good work everyone!

St Christopher's Report by PB:

After a 1km run around the block we arrived at St Christopher's Flats and met Dave & some of the other residents. They explained what needed to be done and that the building work had really impacted their garden.

When Dave & his partner moved into St Christopher's six years ago his partner created the garden space which helped to make them into more a community, they even held a mini Olympics for the kids in 2012. Unfortunately Dave's partner passed away two years ago and since building work has destroyed a lot the soil and plants. So that's why we're here to help!

We split into groups and did the following:

  1. Cleared one area of the garden of weeds and litter. In this area we also replanted a tree and several flowers.
  2. Replanted some pots to be put around the garden.
  3. Cleared two tree pots that had litter, bark and weeds in.
  4. Pulled up, cut, sawed and bagged a huge bush and roots.

Team Chris conquered their roots

Everyone did amazingly! This was a big task that took us 55 minutes to get all of that done. We'll be hopefully back next week to finish the clearing, turn over the soil and add some new soils & plants.

Saint Frances will be leading next week, you'll be off to help 2-3 local housing projects under Origin Housing - sign up here.

PB out.

P.s. Check out Pritesh on Volunteer Centre Camden website - he loves it!
