*Eleven 'Eggcellent' @GGSHEFF runners ran 4KM to help a local co-op to build a Hugelkultur Bed and spread mulch!
This week we will be built one more Hugelkultur bed for Regather and spread some mulch to make the area ready for the spring and summer growing period where they will be making edible flower beds for the surrounding community to enjoy! The raised beds and green space are a public space, managed by Regather.
After a quick brief from the guys at Regather about their plans for the space and the technicalities of building the beds we got to work, splitting into teams to dig, bring the wood over and spread the mulch.
Professional 'Spadesmen' Sam showed us some impressive spadesmanship and with the team made light work of the top turf. Next the team dug a 3" deep 'v' to accommodate the wood. Next we layed the turf green side down, then put the soil back on and finished the bed with a sprinkle of woodchip!
What do you call a guy with a spade in his head?
Next we spread mulch far and wide to level an area and prevent weeds rearing their ugly heads and headed for refreshments kindly provided by Fantastic Fran before heading back outside for the fitness element of the evening!
In the fitness session we
*SPLIT LUNGED
*BURPED
*SQUAT 180'D
*PRESSED UP
*PISTOL SQUATED
*TRI DIPPED
*WALL SAT
The grand finale of the evening included a competitive wall sit where we saw a strong performance and ultimately a sportwomanly draw between Lillie 'The Legs' Wicks and Fran 'Quadzilla' Humpries. Congrats ladies, you put the boys to shame and awe!
Next week we are off to the make the Steel City Steps shine once more.
