On a pleasant summer's evening, eight of Goodgym's bestest runners cut back the ivy at Wanstead House Community Centre and ran 5.5km in the process.
It was another fun task last night as we worked to clear the garden at Wanstead House and earn our keep. This has been our base for the past three years and from time to time we help out around the premises painting fences or gates and generally help keep the place in order.
The task was to cut back some of the plants that have gone a bit wild and remove the ivy that threatens to suffocate the beautiful trees that provide shade to the garden. With Dharmesh and Linda bringing tools from home (thank you both) we were well kitted our for the task at hand and before long the team was hacking away at the undergrowth.
It soon turned out that it was quite a mammoth task and while we were able to fill a bit with ivy vines and cut back plenty of undergrowth there is still much to do and we will need to repeat our efforts in the coming weeks.
With headway made, the squad downed tools for some 'adventuring' in Epping Forest and a trail run around Eagle Pond. There are so many narrow trails to explore in this part of the Forest and it makes for an amazing post run location.
With the run and task done. All it left was a little light stretching to prevent those post-exercise aches and pains.
Another fab night. Well done to all those who came down and helped out. Look forward to seeing you all next week!
