Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Kingston upon Thames runner
It had been a rather wet afternoon with sporadic showers in London, and Tim, Rebecca and Samia turned up at the mission in various states of dryness.
We were greeted by Mr R’s neighbour, K, who had been helping (a massive understatement) to prepare the flat for his discharge home from hospital. She explained that the sofa, armchair and various other smaller items of furniture needed to be moved elsewhere to make space for the arrival of the hospital bed, which would then enable Mr R to be discharged. K had come up with a masterplan of how to do this and briefed us on what to move where.
And so we got stuck in:
We moved some bedside tables and pushed a bed against some wardrobes to make space for the sofa. We then played a spot of Furniture Shimmying, Lifting and Pivoting with the armchair and sofa, wiggling them through doorways with sheer determination to find a way to fit them through (and we saved some photos and artwork from being fatalities of our work along the way thanks to Tim’s ability to catch frames with a sofa in tow).
After a quick snap of us looking very pleased and relieved about our achievements, we heard more about Mr R, his late wife and how they had helped K over the years with various skills. Whilst chatting to K, we collapsed a few boxes and then headed back on our merry ways.
Here’s hoping to rain-safe journeys home 🤞
