Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)
What a way to wrap up a fantastic year of GoodGyming! Last night 14 of us met to plant bags of narcissus bulbs and then headed off into the night for some festive fitness and celebrations at a local pub.
It's been a whole year of GoodGym magic - we've dismantled greenhouses and sheds, we've planted more bulbs than we care to remember, we've pulled unmentionable things out of the river during litter picks, we've gardened at a convent, found out what a hibernacula was and then built one, and celebrated 50, 100 and even 500 milestones. Phew! And after that we even had time to fit in parkruns, races and more PBs that you can shake a stick at.
Last night we kicked off the evening at Harvard Hill where we helped the resident's association with a time sensitive task. They wanted to get loads of donated narcissus bulbs into the ground before it became too cold and hard. Trowels and dibbers (which later featured in our quiz!) at the ready we got them into the ground in record time, so waved goodbye and ran on for our last fitness session of the year.
Two teams went head to head attempting to answer the Christmassy questions that Michelle and Alanna kindly came up with, either winning their respective teams a rest or a forfeit in the shape of squats, sprints or lunges. After it had largely descended into chaos, we made a dash for the pub where we found our very own GG room, complete with crackers and Christmas tree.
The rest of the evening passed in a blur of secret santa, GG Hounslow quiz questions, cheers and fun. Thank you for a brilliant night one and all!
We've got a couple of community missions to keep you busy over the Christmas period, starting with this one to restore a hidden gem of the Gunnersbury estate on Saturday - there is the promise of mulled wine as an extra incentive!
Don't forget that we have regular Thursday lunchtime sesssions at the Hounslow foodbox and then our first run back of the year is on 3rd January.
Wishing you all a wonderful break and happy GoodGyming! x
