Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Sam Lefevre (he/him)
After the rain passed, there was still a drizzle in the air, but that didn't deter: David, John, Kareem, Nathan and Sam from meeting up Simon to continue with the Thorlands project. We welcomed Kareem who came for his first Thorlands session and got told the vision for this space, which will take many more weekends and the occasional Wednesday night group run.
John and Nathan teamed up at the start to move a green tarp from the Walled Garden to the terrace in the Forest Garden to put up a polytunnel.
David, Kareem and Sam continued with where the team left off two weeks ago by clearing the stage area as they prepared it to have cardboard and woodchip mulch put on top of it. Firstly, David raked the leafs as the other two cleared the area of weeds and rubbish.
When the ground was prepared, John and Nathan had just completed putting up the polytunnel, so Sam sent them to get woodchip mulch as the rest of the team put down the cardboard.
After this was done, David and Kareem joined John and Nathan with the woodchip mulch delivery as this became priority number one. Meanwhile, Sam helped Simon trim back and lop off some branches off a tree to let in more light into the stage area.
We could only mulch 1/3 of the stage area, but more will be done next Saturday. Finally, we were treated to a bag of salad from the Walled Garden as a thank you.
