Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Elizabeth
Saturday afternoons often seem made for GoodGym gardening missions. At least that was the case today when I reunited with Hilary to help Mr A with his garden. We'd each made our way there from an earlier community mission at West India Quay, but luckily we weren't fed up of each other's faces just yet! 😉
Mr A has deteriorating health and is no longer as mobile as he used to be. He wanted to make his garden a little more accessible by removing some roots. This is where we were called in to help!
After finally finding the right flat (honestly, this is normally the most complicated bit of the entire mission!), Hilary and I introduced ourselves to Mr A. Although health-wise he was having a bad day, he still seemed happy to have us there and working on his garden. He'd prepared lots of lovely tools and extra sturdy bags for us to use, which made us happy beyond expression 🥰 (<-- the computer code failing to detect the emoji I selected because the happiness is not expressible.)
Cracking on with the task, Hilary and I concentrated on digging up the bigger plants, leaving the surrounding clover to roam unchecked. At some point, Hilary branched out to tidy up some ivy and rake some leaves. Eventually, though, she returned to digging. I suspect that this is because we really dig it. However, it could have been because there was just that much digging to do. Only the Shadow knows 🤷
Regardless, after finishing up, we carried the super sturdy bag (now filled with garden waste) out of Mr A's so that we could leave it in the designated rubbish area (we saw an identical looking bag in the same area, so we're pretty sure we got the right place!). Great working with you again, Hilary! :) Hopefully Mr A will be feeling a bit better soon so that he can enjoy his garden again ☺️🍀
