Report written by Sian Dobson Hughes
On last night's group run, we welcomed back the wonderful pair (or should we say PEAR!) Matt and Pauline from down the Mersey at GoodGym Liverpool. A bit of GG tourism is what we love!
We were returning to Mile End Meadows to help Pheobe and Co (of the Friends of) to help to pick the fruit, cut back the canes and clear the entrance to the secluded meadows.
We set off from base and ran a steady and chatty 3km. Embracing the humid air and avoiding the rain!
Arriving at the meadows, it was almost impossible to see the entrance as the heavy rain and intermittent sunshine had allowed the bushes to grow and cover the secret passage way. Cutting it back was job number one which Ben and Pauline sprung to action on.
Matt, Laura and Sian worked on removing the dead raspberry canes, raking the dead foliage and cutting back.
There was a perfect array of fruit to pick - ripe plums, apples, raspberries and blackberries and we even got a glimpse of the resident meadow frog who has found a home in the new pond.
We had a BERRY good evening!
