Share the love

It was the Simon and Sam show last night as we continued with clearing the front end of the Kitchen Garden and preparing it for growing.

We had to clear the weeds and any rubbish that we found before digging out some soil from the concrete edges. This prepared the ground for us to lay down cardboard and on top of that the last of the woodchip. Eventually, this space will be used to grow herbs and if there is space some lavender (for fresher smells) and vegetables.

The whole activity took an hour and a bit as we took our time and talked the night away!

Thorlands Garden
The first Camberwell market garden in over fifty years

Thorlands Gardens is a food growing club based on an east Lambeth housing estate, in Camberwell. There was a shared vision to move forward with a zero miles food project on unused and unloved brownfield spaces. There was an understanding that residents of all ages could volunteer simply for the value that experience gives to individual wellbeing. There is also the added bonus of sharing the fruits of the labour, which in this case is healthy produce, such as vegetables, salads, herbs, and edible flowers.
