Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Gosia Rybacka
Beth, Gosia and Lauren (doing her first mission ever! ๐โโ๏ธ๐๐) met up in Southwark today to help Mrs V with end of season spruce in the garden.
The garden was small and lovely. An apple ๐ and pear ๐ trees were growing with many heavy fruits hanging on both ready for collection. Due to recent strong winds ๐จ some of the branches were broken, now lying lifelessly on the ground, making it really hard to use the garden ๐ต.
We quickly kicked off with the work, right after receiving more detailed instructions from Mrs V, proper gloves ๐งค (Lauren got even a stylish super tick santa ๐ pair), and a set of garden tools.
We started with bagging all leaves ๐, rubbish, fruits and twigs we found on the ground. It made the space look already much clearer. If any snails ๐ were found along the way we put an effort to ensure these will survive the operation harm-free.
After this initial tidy-up, we took on more specific tasks. Beth was mainly looking after de-weeding the flowerbeds ๐บ and pruning the overgrown bushes. Gosia and Lauren grabbed saws and started to deal with the (surprisingly strong!) fallen branches ๐ณ. We tried to cut them into portions that will be more manageable and nicely fit in the bag.
After tidying up the back garden, we were asked to do a bit of work in the front garden - incl. cuting down some bushes and getting rid of the weeds.
Mrs V was really glad and thankful for our help, she said the garden looked much better. She also offered us to take some of the apples and pears if we want to. Not everyone of resisted this sweet offer ๐.
