26 runners ran 5k and did some Interval training to help Butterfly Conservation in Camden
Another Wednesday evening- another cracking Camden GoodGym run. This week we went back to finish off a job we started last week, while 4 GoodGym 'Red Shirts' headed off on a mission to help two elderly residents sort out their overgrown garden.
We went to help Camden Butterfly Trust. Led by maverick Jim, he takes areas of derelict land and converts them into insect friendly zones. He has permission to convert a roadside strip in Camden into a wildflower garden where Camden's butterfly population can hang out and thrive. Nice work Jim (sign his petition on the above link!).
Tool shortage
The task was hard work- the ground is as dry as a mouthful of Jacobs Crackers, and we only had a few tools to break it up. We split into two groups- 11 people went off to Regents Park to run some tough running intervals while the others got to work. We when swapped jobs half way through the evening.
Land destruction
The task brief was simple- smash and break up the soil so it suited us perfectly.... Armed with a range of pick axes, spades, forks and rakes we went at it hard for 15-20mins each. We did a cracking job- the earth looks much much better and is nearly ready for Jim and his team to start sowing seeds to grow insect friendly plants.
Who can tolerate the lactate?
The running group headed to Regents Park and ran a series of running intervals designed to test their ability to cope with lactic acid in their legs. Its important to work on things like this, we better we are at tolerating by-products of fatigue the easier (and faster) we should feel on our regular runs. Nice work chums.
Jog home
We finished off the evening with a jog back to the centre- feeling satiated by a tough workout and proud to have given an interesting community initiative a helping hand. That's what its all about!
