Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Nicola Marshall
Gosh, the nights are really starting to draw in – don’t know about you but I’m not ready for Autumn yet!
Tonight saw 5 of us come together for another great task. Some of us ran our way there, some of us cycled and some of us walked. It was a lovely evening for any of the above.
We started our warmup with some simple star jumps, squats and high knees – all of which (the exercise and the reps were decided by our lovely members ;-)), then we set off on our run. It was quite nice to be running somewhere different. We meandered through the woods, taking us down a gentle hill until we reached the main grassy area of Joey the Swan (if anyone wants to know the story of Joey, just ask!). We ran the long stretch to the other end of the park, we followed the stream and saw plenty of dogs and their owners along the route (some more friendly than others, lol). Rather than retracing our steps, we took a slightly different route back. We ran across the bridge and through the area that feels a little bit secret as it’s surrounded by quite rich foliage. Then we reached the bottom of the hill – time for some hill reps! (groan). We all did one push up the big hill but Nahashon and Emily went back for a second serving! From the top of the hill, it was a small run back to the building for the start of our task.
We were back at Motherwell tonight. It’s been a while since we’ve done any tasks for them, so it was great to be back there. Motherwell are a charity that work with women through their journey of life – lots of work around motherhood but so many other things as well. Kate, the founder and CEO greeted us and talked us through the task.
The charity are holding an open day next week and Kate wanted the outside of the building smartening up a bit, so that it looked more presentable for visitors coming.
Nahashon and Claire worked on the front of the building – scraping and pulling up lots and lots of weeds. The place was transformed within the hour! It was amazing! Maurice, Nicola and Emily were tasked to the back, where again, it was our job to tidy up the weeds. Pulling up the weeds wasn’t a problem – it was identifying the difference between a weed and plant that was!!
Although we weren’t able to complete all the tasks that were intended this evening (we were locked out of the building), we still made a significant impact, and the outside space is now looking much more cared for than it did before. I’m sure it will be a hugely successful open day.
Thanks for having us Motherwell.
