Report written by Joel Wiles
25 all action Team Hackney GoodGymers ran 8k to weed, hack and clear the Diabetes Wellbeing garden in Stamford Hill.
Great to have so many new faces in the squad this evening eager for this weeks Fun on the Run!!
Amazing to have the We Make Change crew in for the run especially being part of their epic 24 hours of continuous volunteering!!
With our longest run in store we wasted no time bursting into action splitting up into 2 groups for the first slightly up slope run to the Wellbeing garden!
A nice strong pace was set and with the reccy crew setting up and getting started the big group arrived to hit the ground running.
Starting at the far end of the garden we pulled up, dug up, forked out weed, root and bramble at a great pace filling up 4 big brown garden waste bins in no time! A big thanks to Peter for bringing along the extra tools it made all the difference! His reward was to spend 40 minutes attacking The Mother Tree Root. A tough challenge but some really good headway way made.
We cleared half of rest of the huge garden ending with 4 bins filled and a big weed pile to show for our efforts!!
A staggered run back to base with everyone having the chance to push their pace brought as back with a top task and run in the bag!!
Hope to see you all next week for another great run and task plus our Amazing monthly Social of pizza and beverage of your choice!
Hopefully it's not but if it is a big thank you and goodbye to Brit on her final run with is before returning to Canada. Sad to see you go but good luck with your next adventure!
Smooth Running
