Report written by Olive (she/her)
Emma and I arrived at Millpond Estate, where we were greeted by Maria and Abi and welcomed with some pastries and a selection of tea.
Millpond Estate has a lovely communal garden area looked after by the residents. Sadly, weeds had overrun the garden, and Maria asked for our help to prepare the garden for planting. We filled up the buckets rather quickly, so it seemed sensible to use a larger container, which we filled within an hour. As it started raining, we decided to stop for the day. When we looked back, the garden already looked much better. Although the task was not yet complete, we have scheduled more dates in the diary and are confident we will finish the mission soon.
The Millpond Garden is a collective initiative by residents from the Millpond Estate TRA. Driven by a shared vision to elevate our communal space, neighbors united to tend to planters, removing unwanted growth and planting diverse bulbs. Despite lacking horticultural expertise, our enthusiasm thrives as we converse about life while digging into the soil. Beyond a mere physical area, Millpond Garden is a tribute to the delight of gardening and the bonds flourishing in our community.
