Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Annie Dehaney-Steven
Frances and I met close to Mrs H's home having cycled and walked; even before 9am it was far too hot to run. We were welcomed warmly. Mrs H is a great fan of GoodGym since the previous team cleared half of the garden enabling her to get out of the house. Now we had the beds to do. A mixture of pretty, shallowly rooted plants that would have been quite lovely in the right circumstances, and deep-rooted, persistent monsters, the first bed was not too difficult to clear. The second bed was another matter. Frances battled valiantly with brambles and womanfully with buddleia while I discovered that I'd been sold two left gardening gloves when I pulled at an innocent-looking stem with my right hand only to find it covered in tiny, evil prickles. Mrs H and I agreed that I'd survive! After I'd covered the narrow bed with black polythene to prevent regrowth, Mrs H persuaded Frances and me to have an ice lolly (my first in 30-odd years) and then another (my first in 10 minutes) before we left. I then spent the bus journey home trying to hide the red, sticky moustache I was (mistakenly, it turns out) convinced I had! Frances, it was great to work with you!

I'm sure the ice-lollies were a great treat for the hard work you both did! Well done!
