Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Ellie Hutch
The last Wednesday of May was all: Distance mapping, mile smashing, joke cracking, weed wacking. Goodgym funning, bad vibe shunning and a whole lotta sweaty running.
It was a delightful dozen who showed up and showed out for Goodgym Southwark this week. A joyful crew of awesome athletes ready to rock the roads all the way over to Surrey Docks Farm!! Pow Pow
Along with my glorious gang of rapid regulars we warmly welcomed 3 brand new faces into the mix - Emily, Ruihua and Katherine yay!! And with housekeeping and shares complete it was game on for set off and heads down to complete the first leg of the 11k whopper journey up to Surrey Docks farm, a very worthy cause and community hub that educates, provides and gives back to its locals. Amazing!
Despite the muggy and humid air consuming the atmosphere, we pushed on through the heavy smog darting through our eclectic Peckham route. Drinking in the flavour of the high street, dodging pedestrians and weaving past workers heading home for the night. We merry band of red shirted bandits, heads down, no frowns, just smiles and banter as we got into a canter.
Dashing down the milestones and tempo running the killer opening k's, this team proved that their motivation was magic when moving together like a family wolf pack!
And then, in hardly anytime at all, the City business, London skyline became clear in our sights and hey presto - the destination was upon us!! Hurrah. The fantastic farm with all of charm, familiar countryside scent and high picket fence.
Greeting us with her usual happy cheer was Gemma, who offered us a cool drink upon arrival (thank goodness!!!) After we happily drank down our delicious H20, our haul ass in the hotness was quickly forgotten and it was time to get tasking.
The job to complete this eve was an epic amount of weed-wacking and compost attacking, getting the gardens back in shape and beautiful again.
So for 40minutes this hard working hoard, put their backs into action, digging, pulling, cutting and wheelbarrowing, smashing out their best of efforts all in the name of Goodgym, YAY!!
After a quick time check and route home select, a fabulous few decided to take the train while the rest decided to tackle the pain, of running home the complete 11km, a monster plan to hatch but with grit and glory they did dash!
Oh and a Massive shout must go out to Sarah, who had never completed a distance this far!! But complete it she did with ease for a well deserved PB!!! Wow!!!
Home again and the crew reassembled for a champions welcome, the pride of peckham!!! I'm so proud to lead this gang of legends, powerful and positive right til the sessions end!!!
Can't WAIT to come back next week and smash some more awesome for Southwark and goodgym!!!
See you next time!!!! X x x x
