11 GoodGym runners were graced with the hottest day of the year this week as we paced down to Forest Gate to do some gardening.

The Olympic park was buzzing with friends and families soaking up the atmosphere alongside the usual fitness folk jogging and cycling through.

We welcomed 2 new additions to the mix this week; Claire and Sajid, kitted out in their brand new GG shirts that are yet to be spattered with some paint from one of our infamous painting tasks.

Notorious for our painting work in the various rooms at the community centre this was our first time working outdoors. Our job for the evening was to head 3k out of the park to tend to two small patches of greenery at Durning Hall, one at the front of the building in need of weeding and another patch at the side that had seen better days. The charity have particular trouble maintaining these areas as newly planted bits have a habit of going missing and their groundskeeping staff is minimal…Cue knights in red armour.

We split up and got to work pulling, digging and disturbing any weeds in sight along with bagging up litter and other rubbish. It didn’t take long to notice the difference at the front and passers by seemed just as impressed as they stopped to look at what the red shirts were doing nestled in the greenery. A few bags of weeds later and it was time to head back, but not before completing some balance testing, thigh burning circuits topped off with intervals runs that took us back into Stratford.

Good work as always GG Newham Same time (7pm) next week
