Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Andy
A jungle seems like the best way of describing today's mission:
On what felt like one of the hottest days of the year, Andy and Kate met at Miss A's house ready for whatever lay in store. We were met by L (who had referred the mission to GoodGym), who explained how the garden had grown of control, and meant Miss A was no longer able to see the entire garden, or sit outside. L had tackled the garden a few months previously, but was amazed how much it had grown back since - sounds like another GG mission might be required before too long!
Working alongside L, we immediately donned our gloves and got stuck in with secateurs, cutters, loppers and even a saw, hacking into the shoots and branches which had been having free reign. Despite the heat, we quickly filled all the bags L had provided, and she had to go and get extras.
"Each of you is doing the work of 2 people" said L
Hidden under the Ash saplings was a thick layer of brambles, ready to fight anyone seeking to remove them. However, armed with a wheely bin and and wooden plank (to push them down with), we quickly defeated them too (without too many scratches to show for it!).
After 2 hours of work, we had a pile of 8 sacks filled with clippings, plus a wheely bin stuffed to the brim with brambles. L was delighted with our work, saying we'd made an enormous difference. Miss A commented that she could now see through the archway to the bottom of the garden, which she had been unable to see for years.
