Report written by Charlotte Emms
The end of summer arrived abruptly as Tuesday was a very rainy one… though usual Lambeth AA Yianny was on holiday far, far from the rain!
With reduced numbers due to the weather, we managed to pull together a committed group of four to head up the hill for the task.
We had the most miniature of warm ups before taking the ‘scenic’ route up to Palace Road Nature Garden (essentially any route that avoids Brixton Hill!) where we arrived to meet Gerry. Our task was to take down some netting and poles that had been protecting the newly seeded grass on the strip outside the gardens, just by the road.
There was zero hesitation when we arrived as we sprung into action, with some of us taking poles out of the ground and others rolling up the netting ready to be stored. We’d loaded the poles and netting into the trolley in no time, which was lucky as the rain was getting heavier by the minute! We quickly unloaded the trolley in the Nature Garden and headed back to base.
Well done to the super duper team who braved the weather !!
A note from the AA - Huge thanks to Charlotte for stepping in last minute and leading tonight's run!
This small nature garden was created in the 1980s. It provides a varied habitat of both an open grassland and a wooded area of exotic and native trees. The pond attracts dragonflies and damselflies flying above and frogs and newts swimming below. Gerry always needs a hand to keep the paths clear of brambles and weeds and to make sure the public space can be enjoyed by everyone.
