11 do gooders hit the streets, aced the task and took on a fitness session

spring in our step

This week the lovely Cassie was first up shortly followed by Vic who is equally as lovely. Welcome guys a pleasure to have you join us. After the rest of the gang arrived we headed outside with a spring in our step due to the very pleasant weather and light which we've been desperately seeking over the winter months.

with minimal babble

After a briefing with minimal babble we warmed up and hit the street en route for the Living Under One Sun community allotments in Tottenham Hale where we would be plucking some ravishing radishes from the ground, weeding some flower beds and spreading compost on the beds, in preperation for newly planted veg to get their grow on. On our way there we seemed to be getting quite a lot of support from passing traffic at the mouth of Monument Way, lots of smiles and thumbs up. This got us nice and amped.

nattering reached fever pitch

On arrival Diane who would be our lovely helper for the day met us. She ushered us into the allotments and immediately pointed out the snacks, which had kindly been supplied. Managing to get passed the snacks without tucking in was a task in it’s self but we did it and got straight to it with the plucking of radishes. We were making great progress with this as everyone worked away while as nattering reached fever pitch and the sun went down in the background.

snacks just waiting – calling - to be devoured

Some of the group splintered off to use one of the tumbleweed tubes, which had been made by the allotment staff. This invention was made to separate earth from the roots of perennial weeds so that the roots can be burned - never to return. As tumbling commenced other grabbed wheelbarrows full of compost to cover the now plucked beds. We had 5 minutes to go so everyone pitched in to spread and rake the beds before starting to clear up. This seemed a little more hurried than usual and then it dawned on me why… there were those snacks just waiting – calling - to be devoured and with the clean up done that’s precisely what happened.

in search of KFC and some dips

With everyone having their fill we posed for a group pic, said our good byes and did our usual high fives then hit the road in search of KFC and some dips. We were of course heading to KFC to get stuck into some reverse dips and not chicken dips. Everyone got stuck in nicely as a group of youths in hoods eating chicken heckled us (in a good way). With this newfound support we were off again back up Monument Way to the park in front of the Bernie Grant centre where burpees and horizontal mountain climbers (not vertical) were thrashed out before the sprint finish home.

Stretches, banter and future plans were all thrown in the mix here as we warmed down knowing we had done real good for the evening. Wicked session guys =)

Props to Paul for the pun ;-)

Until NEXT WEEK folks

Stay good, keep fit and look out for the light!
