Oooh, it was a chilly one last night!

6 Lovely Goodgym runners got busy once again with their litter pickers and torches to help clean up the streets of Crewe.

We met at the George’s car park again this week where we set off for our run. We had two groups again this evening – a walking group and a running group. The running group managed a cracking 5K!! And the walking group about a mile and a half. The perfect way to warm up on a cold November evening.

Claire, Donna, Emily, Emma, Maurice and Nicola set off after our run, armed with bin bags, pickers and torches on another ‘operation clean-up’. We thought litter might be in short supply at first (which is obviously a good thing), until we got to the hedgerows just past the Morrison’s petrol station. The amount of litter that had most likely been thrown out of car windows was shocking! At that point, our bin bags changed from being fairly empty to being very full!! We spent a big chunk of the session pulling the rubbish from there and to be honest, we could have spent more time on it!! Lots of bottles and some rather niffy containers too!! Uurrgh.

I had planned in a sneaky chip shop stop along tonight’s route. We arrived at Benny’s feeling a little chilly and in my case, definitely peckish! I went in to buy chips but the lovely staff wouldn’t let me pay!!! They kindly donated the chips when they saw what we’d been doing. How lovely is that?!! They also offered us cups of hot tea and they got rid of our bags of rubbish too. What an amazing gesture and how it shows true community spirit. This isn’t the first time that Benny’s has given us free chips – they also did it once when we were litter picking near Gresty Road. It really is heart warming and makes me feel proud to live in such a caring community.

We did a brisk walk back from the chip shop (to burn off those chips) back to the George’s. Fun, Fitness, Friendship, Feel good factor and tonight chips!! These dark November nights aren’t all bad!!

Well done team! Loved being with you as always. Absolutely love my Wednesday nights with you all xxxx
