Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Laura Waller
This Sunday 3 Goodgymmers were delighted to support world car free day in Kingston and Plogolution by taking part in a 5km Plog.
Plogolution is a great organisation that has been set up to help support communities that are dedicated to protecting the environment, so we can be proud to hand our planet down to future generations. They arrange regular 'plogs' which are run/walk and rubbish pick ups. Getting rubbish off our streets, away from our rivers and oceans and raising endorphin levels at the same time!
After swapping out of red and into the white Plogolution T-shirts (complete with inspirational ‘your planet needs you!’ slogan) we armed ourselves with many a biodegradable plastic bag and set off down Portsmouth Road.
Despite a recent river path clean up in the area there were still many ‘treasures’ for us to discover amongst the usual discarded cans and glass bottles, including a wheel hub and an old pair of shoes!
Our next site of attack was Victoria Recreation ground, giving our legs and core a good workout en route as we bent down to de-litter the residential streets of Surbiton. After completing a quick circuit of the park, trying to avoid being an extra defender in the various games of football taking place, we headed back towards the Guildhall for the final stretch of our plog. Stopping off to clear various takeaway cartons and cups from the front of a Church, it was lovely to see the appreciation of one of the congregation as she popped out to say thank you!
Thanks to Plogolution for organising this great event - it was lovely to be part of!
