Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Bristol runner
A lovely morning for a mission, today's task was a few miles out of town so we opted for a four wheeled journey over to visit Mr J, where we were greeted by his befriending volunteer, A, who had helped to set up the mission.
We were introduced to Mr J who warned us that he had not been able to tackle the garden for a long time, but assured us that there were plenty of tools in his shed, if we could find it!
Pointing us in the direction of a very overgrown archway, Natalie took the lead in locating the shed and came out armed with shears and loppers, so that we could tackle bushes, branches and brambles and give the garden a tidy up.
Despite this being her first mission, it was soon evident that Natalie is a natural, particularly as I looked on in envy at the robust pair of gardening gloves that she had packed in her rucksack - little did I realise that I ain't seen nothin' yet!
Within no time we had resculpted the archway to the rear of the garden and cleared the space around the greenhouse and shed of weeds and brambles, before moving on to the main back garden area, where we set about trimming back the bushes and tree branches before tackling the brambles.
As we got further into the brambles these became thicker set, leading Natalie to opt for an even more robust set of gloves, with arm protectors in GoodGym red (see how they match her shirt!) which we agreed kind of made her look like a GoodGym Superhero! What a whole lotta glove!
We were happy to have left the garden looking in much better shape than when we arrived and it was great to learn that A would be able to take Mr J out into the garden from time to time to do a little bit of pruning now that everything was looking more manageable.
It was great fun today and well done Natalie on absolutely smashing her first mission!
