15 Runners help Emmaus Colchester sort out a food donation

Wednesday night and we all gathered at Leisure World for another evening of doing good. We made our way outside for a special photo shoot for Fay before making our way up through the park, down Queen Street and left onto Magdalen Street and to the Emmaus Community House.

Our task was to sort through a donation of food from Imperial College in London. There must have been 40 boxes and we had 30 minutes, we could do this!

We had to get rid of anything that was out of date or open and likely to be stale and then create some order out of what could be kept. We found some really interesting foods for student digs, including: - Dried shitake mushrooms - Seaweed for sushi making - Stewed boar meat - Smoked mussels - Elephant Food!!! - and 141 jars of hot and spicy Pickled Onions!

The residents of Emmaus told us that they didn't really like pickled onions and were delighted when we suggested we might take some with us!

And Tommy was delighted when he found out we'd do snake on the way home.

A really good task and Emmaus were delighted. Well done runners, and thanks to Tav for taking photos and coming up with a pun.
