Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Juliet Stevenson
Tonight we had a lucky break with a 2 hour rain-free window for our run! Off we headed towards Park Hill Rec led by Ellie and back marked by myself - it was more of a slow walk as my back has decided to stop working! So thanks to the patience of all the runners tonight. Our normal warm-up spot on that route was blocked with cars so Ellie improvised for the warm-up and then we headed off to the park. Now that the clocks have gone forward entry into the park is a bit less clandestine as it's officially open!
The original plan was to move compost however Josi told us there'd been some vandalism so we got to work replacing the posts that had been pulled up and weeding a couple of raised beds so the school children could plant them with vegetables over the next few months. We even found some crocus corms in the beds which Josi has kept and will replant. We also had time to look at the Peace Garden where we will have our very own plot to plant up and over the next couple of months we will be invited to make a GoodGym flag at at craft workshop - exciting times. There will be a mass yoga session on the final day of the Peace Festival so we are planning on heading down there in our GoodGym t-shirts for some promotion and also to get bendier! Once we'd finished Josi very kindly provided us with tea and biscuits - she assured us they were the calorie free biscuits too so a bit of a result there! Ellie also let us in to her secret custard cream addiction!
After we’d finished we headed off to a nearby street for some relay races where I kindly made sure none of those waiting for their turn got cold by making them squat, star jump, calf raise and a few more fun exercises.
Welcome tonight to Steve who got stuck in and muddy and also gave Josi some great ideas for defeating the vandals which we can't share here!
There's a change to next week's run. It was going to be to ECCO - East Croydon community Organisation - but we found out this week that Saffron Central has to be vacated by the 16th of April so we will be heading there on Tuesdau night to help Ally and his team out.
