On Saturday I completed the Windsor Women’s 10K. It takes place in Windsor Great Park and the views are stunning.
The weather was ideal, although the field from the car park to the starting line was rather wet. I saw several ladies walking there with plastic bags covering their running shoes.
The village was busy with different tents promoting running related items as well as the usual coffee/breakfast.
A warm up was also organised before inviting the runners to enter their pens. All was done in a calm fashion and friendly fashion.
The course starts on the Long Walk and carries through different sections of the park. We saw several deer, but I did not stop to take photos, for fear of preferring walking to running (I know my weaknesses).
Plus I knew some hills would have to be faced, and thought better to walk up these if needed, which it was!
Along the way, the runners could keep an eye on the pacers and encouraged each other along the way. The marshals were encouraging as well as the family and friends stationed along the way. Great atmosphere!
The finish line is about 2 kms; despite being all downhill, it felt really, really long! But this is where the public is the loudest and encourages you to “empty your tank”.
I crossed the line with a time inferior to the last few years, so for once was happy with myself. The medal given is well designed, the water and energy chews were welcomed.
All in all, the Windsor Women’s 10K is a race I would recommend to our GG team who now have a year of training in order to take part confidently!
Another race for GG members is the Windsor Half Marathon taking place the following day. I am going there to cheer my son-in-law and a friend who are doing it.
Next Wednesday, we will do some litter picking, or plogging, from the Leisure Centre. See you there, in the meantime: Happy running to you all.
