Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Lewisham runner
Fresh from pacing duties at Hilly Fields Parkrun, Vic took a rookie Missionary (Oli) with her to Miss C’s home in Lee where we were greeted by the youngest of her 9 cats and provided with a wide array of gardening equipment with which to tackle the front hedges.
First up was use of the hedge-trimmer, making light work of the leafy hedges and restoring straight edges after a summer of growth.
After kind provision of juice and water refreshments, hedge clippers and manual weed-pulling were the order of play around the rest of the garden, as long (and often thorny) branches were cleared to make for a much more cat-friendly area.
After almost 2 hours, and following a thorough raking and sweeping up, all three bags of trimmings were put to good use in topping up Miss C’s compost bin. Once all tools were tidied away, yet more water, plus bananas and a home-grown fig, were gratefully received as parting fuel for 2 very satisfied GoodGymers!
