Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Mary Hardcastle
What a great way to spend a chilly morning! 92 yr old Mr L welcomed us warmly after his slow and careful descent to the front door from his nice warm bed. We were shown the drawer that needed fixing and without hestitation Steve identified how best to mend it. Mr L showed us where to find his impressive tool collection, so with the screwdrivers and the screws needed for the job Steve cracked on... In the mean time Mary had a lovely chat with Mr L who told us all about his working life; starting out in 1940 as a "box boy" (in the signal boxes) on the railways and overseeing the changes at London Bridge from manual to "push button" signals. Steve did an amazing job to secure the drawer front back in place, Mr L was thrilled to bits with it and enjoyed showing us around his home and telling us some more stories about his life. I think it's fair to say we had a great hour with Mr L; all of us got something out the time spent together :-)
