Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Michael Kidd
A crisp Sunday afternoon saw Rebecca, Beth and I meeting at Mr A’s flat in Rotherhithe to prepare for his discharge from hospital. The task was simple: move his mobility chair up two flights of stairs to his bedroom. Two small problems (or, as I prefer, challenges) stood in our way: the route was narrow and circuitous, plus the chair weighed a proverbial tonne.
We set to work immediately and, after reconnoitring the final destination, the lifting began in earnest. Beth and Rebecca led the way, steering the ship while I supported the rear.
Awkward and heavy doesn’t do it justice but all three of us were seasoned professionals in manipulating furniture around narrow channels. With slightly less contortions than normal, we made it to the finish line with no damage to the chair or surrounding walls.
Mr A’s numerous daughters were surprised and impressed that we got the job done so quickly and that two of us were girls! Beth and Rebecca proved once again the equality of the sexes in the GoodGym domain!
