Report written by Nicola Marshall
With rain being the order of play for most of the day, we weren’t holding our breath for a dry evening, but yes!, we were pleasantly surprised and blessed to have a dry AND sunny evening for our woodland litter pick.
We were small in numbers this evening but that was ok, we were still impactful and had a lovely evening in lovely company.
Emily, Maurice & Nicola started off the evening with a lovely run through the woodland. I for one had never been in that area of woodland before and I think Emily and Maurice have possibly only skirted small sections of it. What a pleasant surprise!!! A real hidden gem. As we had a bit of time to play with tonight, we just kept going along the path, until we could go no more! We rang alongside streams, passed by a small bridge, ran through a large clearing and we even had some fun doing balancing exercises along a large log (which a very playful staffie joined in with!). We ran as far as the path would take us before turning back and getting back to our starting point. It was a lovely 2.5 mile route in total.
Back at our starting point, we collected our pickers and bags and set off for our woodland litter pick. We didn’t think we’d collect much rubbish as the area didn’t look too bad but on closer inspection, it’s surprising what you find hidden in the undergrowth. We had a lovely slow wander and chat as will filled our bags with rubbish. By the end of our walk, we had 3 bulging bags of rubbish between us.
It was a really lovely evening. A good run, great company and a good deed done. No better way to spend an evening.
Well done Emily & Maurice, another productive and lovely evening.
