Yule Logs and Mulled Wine
5 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Lewisham.
- Saturday, 10th of December 2016
On a grey but warm December Saturday, five GoodGymmers gathered in Lewisham to help the friends of Blythe Hill Fields with some heavy lifting. We’d previously been there in March to help the residents with their tree-planting, including our very own Gym (who seems to be going strong for the moment).
The Friends of Blythe Hill Fields had earmarked an area for some wildlife, and wanted some help with installing some log barriers to stop the lawn being mowed! Our task was simple – identify some suitable logs, carry them over and then dig holes to secure them into the ground. The biggest challenge came from the tough clay-based soil, but we got stuck in alongside the local residents and within a couple of hours had finished the task!
Happily, the afternoon also featured mulled wine, mince pies, chocolate and Christmas carols, to ease away any post-GoodGym Christmas party malaise and get us well and truly into the festive spirit. All in all, a very pleasant way to pass a December afternoon.
