Liverpool Report written by Ema Quinn (She/her)
Meeting early in the morning on a weekday isn't a usual GoodGym Liverpool occurrence but what better way to celebrate the shortest day of the year then running with the rising sun, and in the utterly beautiful setting of Otterspool Prom with the sun glistening across the water.
The morning started with 4 early birds setting off together for a walk/run, Emma, Jo, Jennifer and the lovely Max who joined us all the way from GoodGym Sheffield! Pauline was delayed and told the group to run on ahead and she'd catch up, but she then managed to run in the opposite direction and did twice the miles of everyone else (Pauline is a GoodGym legend who always goes the extra mile!) And our 6th Goodgymer (Me!) walked from home (about an hours walk) and was there to greet the group on their way back, in time to all go for breakfast in the fabulous Otterspool Adventure Centre Cafe
Despite a little light drizzle and brisk December temperatures, the sun was glorious and sharing some social time (and breakfast) together was a lovely way to end our year in GoodGym Liverpool and see in Christmas!
We love our new tradition so much, we've already listed the session for 2023, so join us, the sunshine, and the breakfast next year!

Sheffield Report written by Celine (she/her or they/them)
Runners Celine and Max met in the Hillsborough part of the city (the steepness is in the name!) to help Ms T cut back a hedge that had taken over a pavement.
Armed with “shear” willpower we set to work and hacked back the privet.
An hour and a half and 9 bin bags later we had made a slight dent…

Ms T's mental health is being impacted by this and she is unable to afford a gardening service. Any support with the garden will be a great help and will improve her mental health. She has some tools available.

6 dedicated GG'ers got together to meet with Sustrans volunteer superstar Craig to look after a section of the National Cycle Network (NCN).
Craig arrived with tools a plenty in a fantastic new e-cargo bike full of tools for us to use. This is the future as it allows for a lot easier access of tools to places on the National Cycle Network. Nice one Craig!
This week we were working on a section of the 5 Wiers walk that had become overgrown and littered so we gloves up and got down to it.
After a good sesh it was looking much cleaner and better kept and we were all proud of our efforts!
Once we had downed tools and tied up the rubbish bags we headed home via the Ponds Forge stair and ramp combo where we did some PAIRED POWER work with hill sprints and stair squats to give us the jelly legs before heading home to stretch and replenish!
Until next time, happy running ;)

Sheffield Report written by Ash
10 GGers braved the weather to help Courageous Karen and the Pitsmoor Pickers clean up the Burngreave area of Sheffield, picking up litter and the occasional toy arm (not sure what happened to the rest of it).
We set off from the Showroom following a quick 4-way lunge warm up to get us ready for the bending needed for litter picking. Litter picked for 45 mins then dumped our bags at the top of the hill ready for collection.
Karen thought we needed more exercise though, so we got in a hill sprint back up to collect the bags and drop them down at the main bag collection point, ready for the council pick up.
It started to rain on the way back, but that didn't stop us with a final Howard Street hill sprint (taking care not to slip on the slippery stones), before a bus stop stretch off.
Hands down it was a successful mission.

A collaborative run report.... Drop your photos and stories here 🙂
We're going to put the FUN back into functional!!
Keep up the great work everyone.
Where's the best place to go in a heatwave? Turns out it's the Peak District to spend time with like minded, positive people. Plus easy access to shady woods and a river to swim/dip into.
From serious chats around future GG plans, safeguarding, inclusion, participation, Task Force and sustainability to great opportunities to be active with runs, walks, fitness & yoga. There was also lots of time to meet other GoodGymers from around the country and have fun with Quizzes, karaoke and cocktails!

After Manuel’s fantastic disco karaoke experience, the best title I can come up with is “It’s Fun to Stay at The YHA”

Where else are you gonna learn about the challenges of inner-city deprivation, the dance moves to Cotton Eye Joe, and who invented the hovercraft all in the same weekend...? 🤩
