Clair, Beth & I joined tonight’s mission to remove some furniture from Mrs B’s house, ready for her hospital discharge.
We did a quick recce to the recycling area carrying the fabric storage unit as this was the easiest of the items and could be broken down by removing the poles from the connectors - not too dissimilar to putting down a tent!
Next was the base of the bed. Fortunately this was in two parts and whilst bulky, each half was very light. Even so, we decided to save our arms and opt for wheeling the base down the street with one half atop the other. It would have been a great plan had the two parts not had minds of their own. Somehow in all the kerfuffle I managed to fall through the bed. Twice. Thank goodness it was destined for recycling heaven else I’m not sure how we would have explained the tears to the upholstery. (I promise not to use this tactic next time!) Lots of laughs ensued and unfortunately (thankfully) there wasn’t a camera in sight.
Last but not least was the mattress and headboard which we disposed of more easily, safely and elegantly. Job done.
Mrs B’s daughter was grateful for our time and is looking forward to Mrs B coming home.

This evening's mission was to dismantle a bed for Mrs J so that it could be moved downstairs.
After clearing the bed and finding the tools, we set to work. At first we thought our inability to tell left from right was interfering with loosening the screws on the bed frame, but we soon realised that we didn’t quite have the right tools needed to complete the job. As an added challenge, some of the fittings had worn away, making it difficult to retain traction when turning the screwdrivers.
After 30 minutes of battling, we realised it wasn’t going to be possible. We took some quick measurements to determine whether or not we could manoeuvre the bed downstairs without having taken it apart but unfortunately the frame was too wide and too high.
Mrs J was grateful for our time, even though we didn’t complete the mission. We had a chat with her and learned some interesting things - she’s lived in the area for 40 years!
We’ve fedback to the GoodGym office so that it can be arranged for someone with a complete toolset to go around and help Mrs J out so that she can be comfortable and safe in her own home.
