Topiar-illy delil-tful

Wandsworth Report written by Kingston upon Thames runner

Reunited after a week since our last mission together, Debra and Samia arrived on a glorious Sunday afternoon to help Ms J with her garden. Ms J was keen to tell us all about how a series of GoodGym missions had transformed her garden and we were amazed when we saw the beautiful flowerbeds - a stunning array of Delilahs in full bloom.

There were two bushes that Ms J wanted us to cut back and shape, along with some weeding of the flowerbeds and mowing the lawn if we had time. We got to work on developing our topiary skills and nattered away together. We fitted in a spot of weeding but unfortunately weren’t able to fit the lawn mowing in this time.

A splendid afternoon for a simply lovely mission.

Lawn and order

Wandsworth Report written by Debra Johnson

Two runners from Kingston and Battersea came together in Putney to mow the lawn and trim the overgrown jasmine bush in Mrs. D’s back garden. It had started to become overgrown with all the warm weather and rain we’ve been having lately.

Mrs D and her excitable dog Rosie welcomed us and provided us with tools for the job.

It was a perfect sunny Sunday afternoon to do some gardening, so we rolled our sleeves up and set about the task in hand.

Samia quickly got to work trimming and shaping the tall round jasmine bush - a great opportunity to test her topiary skills - while Debra tackled the overgrown lawn with an electric lawn mower. The smell of freshly cut grass was delightful.

We made light work of the task and it wasn’t long before we’d finished and bagged up the grass and cuttings.

Mrs D thanked us for our help and was pleased with the end result. We said our goodbyes and left to enjoy the rest of the sunny afternoon.

Weed it and reap

Wandsworth Report written by Debra Johnson

Three GoodGym members from across London came together to tidy up Ms S’s garden before her house move next week. The weather was perfect for gardening - sunny, warm with a light breeze.

Karen, Catriona and Debra cycled to the house in Putney. Karen and Catriona had already completed a mission in the morning tackling another more challenging garden.

Ms S was very friendly and welcomed us giving us clear instructions on what she wanted us to focus on, providing us with tools for the job. She wanted a general tidy up at the front and back of the house, so we set to work cutting back rose bushes, dead plants and pulling up weeds. There was a lovely smell of herbs in the back garden.

It’s clear Ms S was a keen gardener as the garden was in very good shape, but she couldn’t do it herself as she had broken her ankle and injured her back falling down some stairs.

We quickly made a start in a few key areas of the garden and in just over an hour and twenty minutes we had completed the task. Ms S thanked us for our help and seemed very pleased with what we had achieved.

Mission accomplished!
