Get fit and do good in Greenwich

Four GoodGymers met on another grey, damp Sunday morning to tackle the mean streets of SE7. The shopping park is always a source of rich pickings - literally today, with the find of a silver necklace - and the infamous alley behind Frankie & Benny's never disappoints. In an hour we'd collected 5 bags of pretty rank detritus for collection by Greenwich Council.
We love a delve around in muddy shrubberies and dirty alleys and no doubt the shoppers who were coming out as we finished up will enjoy their walk to Asda a bit more as a result. Thanks team!

Grab a pew & welcome to this week's run report! Greenwich GoodGym sprung into February with the second week of our 2-part task at St Luke's Church in Charlton Village.
An ice-breaker discussion on the joys of those first flower shoots peeking out as spring approaches ,followed by short but sweet run around the periphery of Charlton Park meant we were energised and ready to go as we met Liz, Church Rector, to update us with this evening's to do list.
From bubble-wrapping the lovely hand-carved nativity set, vacuuming the aisle and pews, to filing the hymn numbers, we had plenty to keep us busy. The DIY experts in the group dismantled a table, while some of us got to polishing the brass in the church (of which there's lots!) including plaques dedicated to local figures with possibly record-breakingly long names.
A polished performance GoodGym-ers!
Next week we're painting at the Montessori School And we're litter picking in Charlton on Sunday
Until next time!

No matter where you live there's likely to be some litter around. And it's amazing what a difference it makes spending even few minutes out and about picking up the rubbish that others leave behind.
So that's just what we did - grabbed a bin bag, pulled on some gloves, and set off around our local streets and parks for a tidy up.
As you can see from the photos, some of us fared rather better with the weather than others ☀️🌧.
Star finds included a Tom Selleck frisbee and a pair of glasses 👓. It makes you wonder about the stories behind the things we find 🤔.
Where possible we put cans, bottles and paper in the recycling ♻️ .
At the same time we got some fresh air and exercise. With some nice thank you's from passers-by.
Win, win!

Step right this way!
After a cancelled task tonight we thought we would be litter picking around the river in Woolwich but Andy came to the rescue with another task at Glyndon! After a short run up the hill from the station we met Sarah at the centre and were briefed with the task which was to clear out a section of the infamous shed or should we call it snoopers paradise because who knows what you'll find in this room of mysteries. The delights tonight included three drums of increasing sizes, a guitar, guttering, wires and clothes galore. Our job was to get all the chairs out ready for picking up to be taken to a different home (they'll be in a better place with lots of other chair friends) then returning all the useful items and putting all the clothes in the clothes bank. However one obstacle was that the clothes bank was very full. No matter- we had Marta on the team tonight and she resourcefully used a broom and a large metal pole to stir, prod and push the clothes in as deep as they would go so we could heap more on top.
At the end of the session the garage looked that much clearer with a little walkway space which wasn't there before and we headed for a run back down the hill to Woolwich.
Great job team- we made a big difference in a small time! This weekend we've got a task at Mycenae House and we'll be celebrating our the GoodGym Greenwich ninth birthday - please come along to any part of it you would like to!
Next week we're at St Luke's for our first task in the lovely church.
Until next time!
