A HUGE GG welcome to new runners Tom Mundy and Linsey Mundy.
Give em a cheer!
Welcome both, hope you enjoyed it and see you on another run soon!
Last nights run was back to our old friends at Lynwood Gardens to help MAGIC MARTIN and GORGEOUS GARETH with the upkeep of this gem of a space which also hosts an outdoor kindergarten!
Tasks this week included:
We quickly split into our three teams and got straight onto the tasks with special care being taken with the scythes, being sure to announce if you were being someone - 'a good rule for life' according to Stevie G.
After a good session with everyone getting really stuck in we all 'breathed a scythe of relief' (Stevie G) on a hot midsummers nights eve, downed tools and headed in the direction of home.
On the way back we had a split due to a wedding leftover dense focaccia - In Carolines words 'we're going rouge, it's a heavy loaf'.
The rest of us got stuck into some fitness which included;
On arrival outside the Showroom we stretched off and heard the latest news before heading in for a well earned jar!
Until next time, happy running!

On a muggy evening, we started off our session with a quick warm up of lunges and squats led by Awesome Assistant Ash, while Kat briefed out the essentials and we welcomed new GoodGym runner Mohammad :)
We ran up past the Park Hill flats breaking off to have two teams: Team South Street Hill led by Kat and Team Steel City Steps led by Sarah and Steve. Special mention to Chris and Harris who smashed it up the steps in record time :) where we all regrouped before running the final leg to the task. We met Jackie from Park Community Action (PCA) at the Park Centre Library Entrance, who provided some tools to carry out our litter picking and weeding tasks of the PCA gardens and grounds and adjoining streets.
Clearing the dirt from this old bathhouse, with bags soon filled, Amazing Andrew provided extra bags for the GG team to continue our weeding and litter picking; and Sterling-work Sarah got stuck into clearing out the litter and debris from a soaked space of the grounds.
During the task Awesome Assistant Ash ran 3 short fitness sessions to provide an extra GG workout :) This involved a combination of sit ups, press ups, flutter kicks, planks and shuttle runs to work out GGrs cores, upper bodies and legs. Thanks to Cat and Darren to helping Ash find good work out spaces in the jungle grassed park.
With a nice jog down hill and some gentle stretches, we found our way to back at the Showroom for a good old drink.

Proving once again that GGSheff ain't no party poo-pers, twenty-five GGSheffers made their way to Heeley City Farm last night to display maximum Goodness. We welcomed Cerowyn (referred to us by our old pal Shona), a new runner and also welcome back many recent joiners so it's good to see we haven't scared anyone off! After a quick debrief, an explanation of the running drills and count off, the team headed out on the 2km trip.
On the way out, we made sure to listen out for the whistle - one toot for fast feet, two toots for super slow running (just like Baywatch!) to practice our form and build core strength. We did squats at red lights and walked across the road in our best Emperor penguin impressions to build up some of our running muscles.
On arrival, Julie from Heeley City Farm met us at the entrance to explain our jobs. The farm had recently had to make a member of the team redundant so we took over some of the jobs that he would normally have done all on his own - bag up leaf mulch read for sale, move some manure and turn over another manure pile. The whole team worked really well together despite a few cramped spaces proving once again how much a group of good people can do in a short space of time. As we were all knee deep in the task it was suddenly time to start packing away and we left the farm neat and tidy, just as we'd found it.
After a few words from Julie, a photo with the big pig and a some hand scrubbing it was time to head back to base. In a change to the normal intense work out provided by Tom, we assembled on the green for a yoga practice showing the whole city our Downward Dog and Warrior poses before a good stretch off and round up of the week.
Thanks to Chris D and James for being solid back markers! See you next week :)

13 GoodGymmers ran to Meersbrook Park to help the guys from Small park BIG RUN distribute flyers in the local area. The 24 hour running event is in mid June and raises funds for education and play projects in Gaza.
It was a warm evening, so just running there was hard work. On arrival, we split into 4 teams and targeted different areas around the park.
After the volunteering bit, we ran a loop of the course, which goes up THAT Meersbrook Park hill (it's very steep even by Sheffield standards, but offers fantastic views over the city from the top).
With some optional sprints on the way back, we then headed back to base for some stretches - and even managed a bit of plogging at the end. The Bank Holiday effect meant there was even more litter about than usual.
GoodGym will be entering a 24 hour team (we hope) for Small Park BIG RUN, as well as volunteering in other roles over the event weekend.
Until next time - Happy Running!

The day after the Sheffield Half Marathon an impressive number arrived at the showroom to aid their recovery on a short run to Lynwood Gardens.
We welcomed Gabriella, Zuzanna and Gavin on their first runs, show them some support and give them a cheer!
Super Sarah was bestowed with her very own bowtie for reaching her 50th good deed, make sure to give her a cheer here.
We headed to Lynwood on our traditional route which despite the climb on Hanover Way is the least hilly route from A to B, but we took it steady to make sure those post race legs weren't to painful. On arrival Gorgeous Gareth gave us a intro to the evening's task which focused around getting a skip filled, Captain Kat has clearly been reading some productivity books and quickly suggested we form a human chain to pass the debris from where it was being stored out to the skip. We got an education on what Greedy Boards were and soon had all skip filled.
With a little bit of time left we turned over the compost piles and searched the location for anything else that looked skippable.
Once were were finished and had received a warm thank you for Gareth we headed off.
Having promised not to inflict the Moby Flower Squat Challenge on everyone we spotted off en route so Stand In Steve could ruin another favourite song. This time it was Will Smith getting us to pulse squat, jump squat, forward, back and side lunge to "Switch", which everyone loved!
When we arrived back at base we spent a little longer stretching to make sure we helped with leg recovery and didn't forget those arms that had helped drive so many up That Hill the previous day!
