After parkrun this morning five GoodGymmers explored the streets of Marsh, Huddersfield delivering flyers to promote Marshfest. Marshfest is an annual music festival held at the Ukrainian Club on Edgerton Road. It aims to raise funds and awareness for local poverty charities, promote local grassroots music, inspire young people's interest in music and arts, and provide an affordable family festival in Huddersfield. What’s not to like! This year Marshfest is on Saturday 20th July and a ticket for over 14s is only £5 and kids go free. It’s a great day out (and the bar is cheap too!) Some GoodGymmers got off to a speedy start, while others found delivering flyers while eating a post parkrun bacon buttie a bit of a challenge. Once everyone had breakfasted we soon got into the rhythm and delivered all the flyers. As we had been delivering along GoodGymmer, Richard’s street he kindly invited us in for a very nice coffee and biscuit. I have taken note of this and will now be organising all future Community Missions in the vacinity of GoodGymmers homes so get the chocolate biscuits in everyone!?!

Malc Buckley has done their first good deed with GoodGym.
Malc is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.

Malc Buckley earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Malc completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Malc was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

This morning six runners and marshals joined us post parkrun for a spot of gardening. Paul from Friends of Greenhead Park asked us to prune back the hedge and undergrowth which was poking through the fence by the roundabout at the junction of Gledholt Road and Park Road South. Off we set armed with trimmers and bin bags quickly hacking back brambles and bushes, and managing to fill eight bin bags. Today was a perfect example of people trying to fit in a few minutes of doing good into their already busy schedules. Lots of us had to head off early due to family or other commitments, and this is absolutely fine. A lot can be achieved by two people putting in half an hour each. GoodGym Huddersfield meet every Tuesday at 6:30, usually at the Stadium for a group run and a task. The next post parkrun community mission will be on Saturday 6th July when we will be delivering flyers for Marshfest. Thanks to Helen Bennett for some of todays pics.
