Last Leaflet

Crewe Report written by Nicola Marshall

Tonight was a different night. Tonight was the end of an era and the very last official Goodgym group run. As of tonight, things change with Goodgym Crewe. We will still be around, doing our thing and continuing our good work, just in a different way. Goodgym HQ have needed to make some changes to the structure of the organisation, which has resulted in changes to 15 areas, of which Crewe is one. So, you might not see a report from us every single week, but you will still see us out and about doing things in the community - and when we do, we’ll make sure we let you know about it!

Tonight, Karen, Nigel, Maurice, Phil and Nicola spent the evening delivering some leaflets for junior parkrun to one of the local housing estates. With five pairs of hands it was a task which we completed in a fairly short amount of time, combining it with over 3 miles of steps as we did! And true to Goodgym form, the weather was kind to us and it was actually pretty warm too. I’m really pleased that the weather was nice for us for our last night as we have a little saying “it never rains on a Goodgym night“. It would have been a shame if it had let us down on our last night 🤣

We enjoyed our task and met a beautiful cat while we were out and about (see pics!) as well as having a good chat as we went.

Once we’d finished leafleting, we headed over to Hops Belgian Bar to have a drink and a piece of Colin (the caterpillar cake!) to celebrate 5 years of Goodgym Crewe. It was lovely to sit and chat and to also talk about tasks we might do in the future. I had the loveliest of surprises when Karen gave me a beautiful bunch of flowers from everyone. I was so touched and it was such a lovely, unexpected surprise.

Thank you to everyone who has made the last 5 years (almost) of me being an Area Activator such a rewarding and wonderful experience. I wouldn’t change a thing about it. Thank you for your continued dedication and support. You really are THE BEST bunch of people I know and I’m glad that we’ll always be friends.

But for now… over and out.

Love you all to bits. Nicola Xxxx

Phil completed 25 good deeds with GoodGym.

Phil has already done 25 good deeds with GoodGym. Instead of doing anything else, they've used their run to go and help people that need their help; digging, lifting, scraping, clearing, planting and weeding. Stuff that makes this a better place to be.

Policed To See You!

Crewe Report written by Nicola Marshall

What a lovely evening spent with lovely people - the norm when out with my lovely Goodgym friends.

Once again, we were blessed with good weather... especially after so much rain in the days preceding tonight‘s task.

Tonight was an extra special night, as the lovely Kat was celebrating her birthday! What a true Goodgym die hard to come and spend her birthday night leafleting with us lot!!! You are a legend Mrs Arnold!!

Kat, Hazel, Maurice, Phil & Nicola started the evening with a brisk circular walk from the Sherborne bungalows down past the cemetery and back up and through the estate to our task starting point. We put the world to rights as always - tonight’s main topic of conversation being potholes and brown bin charges!

The lovely Hazel greeted us and told us all about our task for the evening. Tonight we were delivering leaflets to the estate to promote a Police drop in for residents of the estate. We managed to get all the leaflets done that we needed to and we really hope that the clinics have lots of uptake. And thank goodness we had Hazel to guide us around the estate! I think we’d still be there now if it wasn’t for you Hazel!!!

To celebrate Kats birthday, we headed off to the chippy once we’d finished our task, for some birthday chips! It was lovely to stand outside eating our chips still in the daylight! I do love spring!!!

Well done, everyone on another amazing task achieved. And Kat, we hope you enjoy the rest of your birthday!

And finally, a shout out to some of our regulars who couldn’t make it this evening. You were very much missed.

Have a great week, everyone.

Lots of love Nicola xxxxx

One Sick Night!

Crewe Report written by Nicola Marshall

It was a cold (but thankfully dry) night to be out and doing a spot of litter picking in Crewe. It was lovely to have Phil back with us this evening after his recent jet setting to Thailand - which it was lovely to hear all about as we wandered the streets (and thank you for sharing your lovely photos afterwards with us too).

Karen, Phil & Nicola all wrapped up (although still not very warm to be honest) covered a fair amount of the pavements around the Crewe Station area and collected 4 huge bags full of rubbish! We're fairly confident that there's a clean team who had recently done some litter picking around that area and yet we still got plenty of rubbish - which is quite sad really.

Sometimes, I worry about us doing a litter picking task as it's a bit too often during the winter months due to a lack of tasks, but that said, the value of a litter pick is huge. Can you imagine how are streets would look if there weren't volunteers like us out picking it up! Yes, it's sad that we have to - people have no excuse to drop rubbish - but they do. I hate to think what our town would look like if it was simply left to accumulate and was never collected. So I just wanted to say an extra big thank you - not just to our wonderful Goodgym members who always do a litter picking task with enthusiasm - but to everyone that ever picks up a picker and picks up other people's (often disgusting) discarded rubbish. You are wonderful people who really do make the world a better (and tidier) place!

Our task title tonight will only mean anything to those that were there - and if you weren't there, you can probably guess!

Have a great week everyone. You're wonderful!

Lots of love Nicola xxx
