I started running 18 months ago. I never thought I would run. I thought runners were mad, pounding the streets in all weathers. However, in 2016, for all sorts of reasons that I haven't quite analysed yet I did the NHS choices couch to 5K and joined a beginners running group that runs on the National Trust property at Wimpole. I now run for fun, when I'm miserable, with my dogs (and sometimes with my kids and husband when I can persuade them!). I run to get over the night before 🍺 and when I've eaten too much🍰. I run round my neighbourhood and in the fields and woods to see what's going on in the world. I can't say I'm competitive - I've done some organised runs with folk from the Wimpole runners and I like doing a Parkrun occasionally. The main motivation is running with other people and celebrating success. I've recently trained as a Run Leader with the Run Together organisation. I am taking on a RunLeader role at Wimpole to support the other 3 Run Leaders there so I have a license and insurance to start up a beginners running group if required. In my other life I'm a primary school teacher and volunteer at the Trussel foundation foodbank in Letchworth and at the Animal Free Research charity shop in Hitchin so finding out about Goodgym has enabled two of my worlds to combine. With my Run Leader license, my motivation to put my organisational skills and experience of volunteering to good use I thought I might be of help as a founder member of the Hitchin GoodGym. Cross fingers the proposal goes through soon!
