Battling Bindweed and enough rocks to start a band!

Windsor and Maidenhead Report written by Angela Shaw

Six enthusiastic Good Gymers set to work weeding beds and clearing bindweed at St Lukes school. Adam and Ben showed great perseverance using a trowel, fork and finally a large spade to dig a deep hole for a shrub. There were so many rocks but eventually all the new shrubs were planted and watered. Gill planted up some colourful pansies in smaller pots whilst Yesim and Roberta completed the weeding of other beds. Finally we cleared up and made our way home before dark!

This was no picnic!

Windsor and Maidenhead Report written by Jess Smith

10 Goodgymmers ran, walked and cycled their way to the beautiful Ray Mill Island on the shores of the Thames to help the Friends of Ray Mill Island sand picnic benches.

This fantastic new community group have taken on the task of looking after Ray Mill Island to help provide a more welcoming area for visitors. Goodgym have previsouly helped to paint the toilet block so a new mural can be painted to cheer the area up. Tonight the group were tasked with sanding the picnic benches to prepare them for a coat of varnish. This will help to maintain them and ensure they last for longer for people to enjoy.

We met task owner Nivi and other members of the Friends of Ray Mill Island group including new Goodgym recruit Dionne! (Welcome!. We were handed sandpaper and blocks and set to work. Although this sounds a simple task, it was no picnic. A great arm workout was in store and the benches began to spring into life.

After and hour of sanding and chatting 9 benches were ready for a new coat of varnish.

A Goodgym task would not be complete without a little fitness session. Tara had joined us and led us through a standing yoga session. This was a calming end to the evening in a quiet corner of Maidenhead.

School's out, GoodGym's in

Windsor and Maidenhead Report written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

Lifting and shifting did you say All Saints Junior School? Absolutely, we twelve GoodGymmers say back!

We arrived on foot (run and walk variety) and cycles to tackle the lockers that needed moving out of the corridors. And in no time all lockers were neatly tucked away into various classrooms.

With time on hand, we went at the small courtyard overrun with weeds. How many GoodGymmers does it take to trim a hedge? Let's see who can find the answer in the photos!

Weeding and trimming done, compost bins filled, we said hearty goodbyes and went off into the rainbow (while the sun went missing).

Van-tastic Clean!

Windsor and Maidenhead Report written by Didem Campion

This evening we were back helping at the Spencer Denney Centre, the home of Age Concern in Windsor.

Amy and Yeşim joined us from Maidenhead. Marilyn, Sue, Adam and Didem all met up at the task.

Our task owner provided us with everything we needed to clean the inside of their van. Team first took out all the rubbish left in the van then started hoovering. We soon realised out of the 3 hoovers one was completely full and the other had a blocked head part. Do not fear when you have Sue in the team, she very kindly cleaned the blockage with the help of a toolbox from the centre and Adam kindly emptied the full one.

We spent rest of our time hoovering followed by spraying the dashboards and other bits and bobs before wiping it down.

The inside of the van had not been cleaned for sometime but with a bit of hard work it was sparkling!

Van-derful job team.

Thank you for coming!
