Leaf it to the experts

Wednesday 28th November 2018

Written by Bournemouth runner

Another rainy and windy day in Bournemouth was brightened by 8 wonderful souls this evening. On the menu were two tasks in one group run, so we had to be at our best. It was our first time being called in to help out at Shelter Bournemouth, who do so much for the community here, and they kept us busy which was great. After meeting Kate, who let us know what needed doing, the team split up into groups and got going.

Dan, Grace and Lee grabbed buckets and brooms and headed to the front of the offices to clean the ramp and left it spotless. Daryl and Caprice headed to the back and ripped out all the weeds in their staff parking area and left if looking pristine. Daniela and Abi were indoors cleaning windows and wiping down chairs and left everything smelling and looking fantastic!

Then we all headed downstairs and moved some unwanted furniture around and tidied up an area so they could turn in into a winter wonderland for the homeless families they will be looking after this Christmas.

And after all that was done, we still had 45 minutes to run around the neighbourhood...down some dark alleys...up some roads we had never seen to distrubute some leaflets for Autism Wessex, to spread the word about their Christmas Carol service they are holding at Christchurch Priory on the 4th December at 7pm. All for charity, so if you are free please head down and support them.

With the rain holding off all evening for us, and getting back to Flirt in time for Lee and Dan to get their bags before they closed...we felt very lucky and possibly some of the good vibes from our good deeds were coming back to us straight away.

Or maybe it was because Daniela had received her GoodGym shirt....oooorrrr because Caprice was wearing her wings for the first time!!??!

Well done all of you for coming out and doing a double task. See you all next week for our visit to the Foodbank. Sign up here

Spaghetti Westbourne

Wednesday 17th July 2019

We gathered at Flirt Cafe this evening and soon found out that they were closing at 7pm...mainlty to annoy us....or maybe it was a test....I think we failed the test.....I think they failed it too.... Either way, we had Daryll back after ages off so really we didn't mind about Flirt Cafe. And we had Neil's car to leave our bags in and that was more than enough!

Tonight we were tasked with a flyer drop for Autism Wessex to help promote their Summer BBQ fundraiser on the 27th of July. And knowing that Hannah wasn't too keen on the route to Boscombe, we switched it to the more suburban route of visiting Westbourne.

You'd be surprised at how many houses and building don't actually have letter boxes!!! Don't blame them really. Our route took us to Allumhurst Road and roads leading off it. We saw new roads and had considerable house envy by the end of it. Some really lovely places on display...according to Caprice who has a thing for Right Move...they were in in the £800,000 range.....

We split up into two groups and weaved our way around all the little side roads and explored as much as possible. Only a few barking dog encounters.

In no time we had managed to regroup and delivered almost all of the 500 leaflets we had, so we headed down to the prom for some photos and some extra KMs.

We headed back up through the gardens and those that didn't need Neil's Cloakrooms services headed to the new Urban Garden bar for our social meet up and the rest split up into a little starburst route. Some going to their cars, others home to make Spag bowls and then the rest to get things out of Neil's car to then head back down to have some drinks in nice surroundings.

A really nice evening hanging out with very pleasant people, doing good in the community and getting fit and sweaty at the same time!

Next week we are Hope Housing.....sign up....here. It's going to be pretty random but lots of fun!

Thank you John for the title....Amber, hope you enjoyed your dinner xx
