I'm a GoodGymer, get me out of here...

Wednesday 4th December 2024

Written by Katie Carew-Robinson (she/her)

Despite seasonal sickness taking out some of our sign ups, we had a great turn out for a festive favourite.... decorating the Baffins Pond Association compound.

Tinsel was added to anything we could attach it to, stone animals were decorated, baubles were hung on branches. Four large storage boxes of decorations were emptied in the process and now Christmas has arrived in sparkling glory in Baffins.

🏆 Most improved decorator award goes to Felix who found presents for the animals and was a willing helper to Maxine in between having chats with Jane!

🌟 Best GG promoter award goes to Judy who went all out to let people know about our festive tasks and key January Challenge dates. Let's keep the secret of the other award Judy could've won.... But the health and safety warning is don't rely on a bush to support you when hanging decorations.

🍫 Most appreciated award to Vicki for providing us with sweet treats to keep the energy up.

A great evening had by all. The festive season is officially open. Merry Christmas 🎄 🎁 🌟🧑‍🎄

All corners, all directions (and Jane's 200th!)

Saturday 16th November 2024

Written by Judy Knapp

GoodGymers did their magic at Baffins again, spreading out in all directions to cover the field, the wood, the pond area and the playground.

We hunted out the litter amongst the trees and caught in the brambles - such a difference to a few years ago when we'd find so much rubbish at Baffins.

Jane celebrated her 200th good deed and wore the cape for a photo shoot alongside the new MP for Portsmouth North, who was also doing her bit to litter-pick the park.

Bravo to the Baffins Pond Association for organising another successful clean-up!

I got a ticket to leave(s)

Saturday 19th October 2024

Once again we were very happy to see that there wasn't bagfuls of rubbish to collect around the pond.

Aoife brought along our super mini gg-er who supervised superbly.

We dug through the piles of leaves and managed to find a few bits for recycling. Some sweet wrappers, and a rather creepy looking smile ready for Halloween!

I had to apologise profusely to the masses of squirrels following me through the woods. Luckily a lady arrived with some breakfast to appease them!

Rich pickings at the park

Saturday 21st September 2024

Written by Jane

It was a slightly trickier than usual pick this morning with the fallen Autumn leaves hiding the litter and the wind trying to turn my bag inside out!

Lots of wrappers and 89 cigarette butts this time - I couldn't help counting them!

Can't see the litter for the trees!

Saturday 17th August 2024

Written by Judy Knapp

Jane at the Baffins Pond Association asked us to litter-pick the car park, the dipping pond and Stagg Wood. We soon collected plenty of rubbish, including hidden litter in the depths of Stagg Wood.

It was great to walk amongst the healthy, trees that were just tiny saplings when Portsmouth GoodGym helped spread bark around them to suppress the weeds a few years ago.
