The Great British Rake Off

Wednesday 16th April

Written by Laura

It was great to have such a big group tonight, with 15 GoodGymers running up to Bedford Fields to do various jobs. It wouldn't be Bedford Fields without a wood chip workout, so we wood chipped all the paths, cleared and chopped up debris, sieved soil & Jubz dug a big hole to lay a pipe and then filled it all back in.

Welcome to newcomers Annie & Laura & welcome back to Kawan who last joined us in 2020 (thanks for the bike ride)!

Thanks all & great work everyone.

Chip Happens

Saturday 15th March

Written by Laura

This morning, 2 GoodGymers swapped tales of sailing and paddle boarding whilst filling wheel barrows full of wood chip and taking it down to Coffee on the Crescent. We raked it out underneath the benches ready for spring/summer. It was really nice to chat to and get to know Lloyd more :) see you paddle boarding soon!

Twisted firestarter

Saturday 1st March

Written by Helen Noyes

A beautiful sunny task at Bedford Fields must be the reward for all the cold, dark evenings we have endured here over the winter. We were tasked with digging a wide border for future terracing to stop the soil migrating onto the footpath. Jubz was co-opted by Beth to collect firewood from the old dead hedge and use this to light the firepit. This played to his strengths as a self-confessed arsonist...

If you can't stand the heat...

...then get out of the kitchen!

Last night we ran 2.5K from Heart & headed up to Bedford Fields where we met Beth who tasked us with various jobs. The group got to work clearing paths, digging and continuing to help build the kitchen in the cabin.

It was a cold night but the 2.5K run back helped warm us up again.

Welcome to newcomers Sarah & Jin and welcome back to Megan. We hope to see you again soon.

A little off the top? A bald move.

Sunday 1st December 2024

Written by Leeds runner

Yesterday, five GoodGymers made their almost weekly pilgrimage down to Bedford Fields. Despite the sickness going round, we were still able to field a solid team. Shenanigans were afoot with themes including shaving your head, starting fires and Greggs floating around.

The gang got to work with trimming back some of the mint and other overgrown plants as well as raking some of the fallen leaves and dead bushes. Later, we trimmed back the blackcurrant bushes, removing any branches that were interfering with each other, and taking straight cuttings to be used later. Some of the mint and marjoram was kept to be used for drinks and such. We ended the day by placing cardboard around the trees and some of the bushes and then shoveling mulch onto them. A very solid workout for the day.

Lovely to see the newer faces of Caragh, Alice, and Lloyd - hope to see you all at the Christmas party! Jason is still the King of Bedford Fields, the piano calls to him.

If you can't stand the cold, then get out of the kitchen!

How many GoodGymers does it take to build an Ikea kitchen?!

Moving, rearranging, building kitchens, hanging doors, litter picking with tongs, running, star gazing, cookies, hot chocolate, hot water bottles down tops, falling over, star gazing & the cold.

Of all the random GoodGym nights, tonight was probably the most random. There were a lot of us in a very confined space at Bedford Fields as the ground was too frozen to do anything outside. We hung a door, started to build a kitchen and rearranged furniture.

Thanks to the none runners for staying behind to do more on the kitchen.

Congratulations to Helen on her 170th good deed! You're amazing.
