PHEW! We arrived at Berrylands station swept along (or battered by) Storm Hannah to lend 3 pairs of hands to the Berrylands Adopt-a-Station project. The plan is to create planters at the station to brighten up journeys for commuters and travellers; but today we would be focusing on the station approach, planting giant planters, weeding around trees and planting lavender to give said trees some company.
Plants had been donated, planting plans drawn out and laminated, and pink high vis jackets donned:
Time to make an im-pot-ant improvement!
We set about preparing the planters for planting by filling them up with a layer of sand and then compost. Next we tried to follow Dawn's laminated planting plan, although admittedly renamed some plants by their colour instead... It was a game of planting by numbers - oh and chasing the empty pots down the street whenever a gust swept them away!
After the planter was planted, it was time to weed around the trees and plant the lavender where soil conditions permitted.
We were kept in high spirits by comments from passers-by, thanking us for brightening up their route to the station. And having reached some impossible-to-dig non-soil, we decided to leave it at that!
