Tin Can Alley

Friday 19th July

Written by Sarah

3 Goodgymmers excited to get stuck in at Braunstone Community Primary had their dreams dashed when the gates were locked and nobody was at home. Turning the situation around we cracked open a non-alcoholic Athletic brewery beer in the shade while waiting another 10 minutes just incase because we had been assured someone would come to let us in. Luckily the litter pickers were still in the car from last week.

The busy school road was being dug up so we could litter pick to our hearts content without any traffic. Plus there was plenty to pick from, cans and bottles lined the street and even a plastic frog that Jimmy kept to put on his bike.

We enjoyed the walk and the chats, Stu telling us about his 10km trail race in Wales and taking 2nd place in his age group, yet again another win for Stu the running legend. Plus Jimmy sharing his wisdom in cycling, he doesn't realise it but I would not be out on my bike as much without his wise words, one day I will get a bike rack.

Weldone both, so pleased you could join in.

Herb your enthusiasm

Friday 7th June

Written by Sarah

4 keen Goodgymmers met at Braunstone Community Primary school. Today's task was to clear the brambles in their allotments to create a safe and enjoyable space for them to learn about growing produce.

Everyone got stuck in as always and lots of running chat as always with Gareth (AKA Bod) completing the LAP, the 45 mile ultra in the Lake District, amazing achievement. Also Stu being a little disgumbled about someone beating him in his age category in a non-race Parkrun, poor Stu, he's usually the V70 champion at every Parkrun he does, an inspiration to our community.

After some digging, trimming and many wheelbarrow loads later the overgrown area was looking far better, we could see the ground! Strength work deffinatly complete after that, I couldn't even lift one of the roots Stu dug up, it was monstrous!

We were treated to hot drinks and cake today, very much to Stu's delight when anyone mentions cake, he was still on about the amazing lemon sponge Dawn made last week, putting it on his wish list. Weldone all fab efforts, we'll be visiting again soon.

Story time with Stu

Friday 10th May

5 fantastic GoodGymmers came help Braunstone Community Primary School create an allotment to grow fruits and vegetables. Back for the second week as there's so much hands on work to be done and the sun was shining.

Everyone got stuck in clearing out all the weeds and brambles, Nick and Stu had their hands full with the roots on one of the brambles, it looks more like a small tree!

Jimmy and Dawn cleared all around the pond, I had to warn Jimmy there was no swimming today.

Fantastic work team, your efforts are really appreciated and great to see you all, keeping fit whilst doing good.

Stuck in the mud

Friday 3rd May

Written by Sarah

6 super strong GoodGymmers came to get stuck in at Braunstone Community Primary School to help create an allotment of dreams.

The teachers plan to use the fantastic space they have to grow their own fruits and vegetables. The school have raised money to buy the polytunnel, which already had some hopeful seedlings planted by the children. They are even hoping to have a stall on the local market to raise funds for charity.

Fantastic turnout today, shout out to Gareth our newest member came back for his second helping of GoodGym.

This was a brand new task for us to work with after our friends at B-inspired Foodbank down the road from the school conveniently recommended us.

Everyone got stuck in moving tables out of the overgrowth and then clearing out all the weeds and brambles. Lots of tree identification going on with a cherry tree, Hazel and gooseberry bush to work around.

Fantastic work team, when GoodGymmers get on board more hands always make for a lighter load, same again next week.
